Rusty is introduced when Alto goes to the 9th Regiment selection exam. ![]() Some time before the story, Rusty became one of the people who would join the 9th Regiment once it was finally assembled.Īt a different time before the story, Rusty and Archibald roomed together at Grenna. Rusty and Dorothy met at least once it is unknown whether or not they met at Kashmistan, though. Three years before the story, Rusty accompanied Hrodulf to Kashmistan, where Hrodulf turned against the Royal Knights and led the Harbingers into the city. Hrodulf picked him up and brought him back to Lambert, becoming a mentor and father figure to him. He struggled to survive for a while, until Hrodulf passed through the camp on his way to a mission. He was orphaned by some circumstance and lived in the camp until he was ten, when a drought hit the camp and he was kicked out. Rusty was born in a small desert camp in the Mujabalaar Desert. He also wears several belts with pouches on them: two over his vest and around his hips, and two around each thigh. He wears black trousers and black and brown boots. Over his forearms, he wears black "sleeves," over which wears metal black and silver arm guards. Rusty wears a yellow and orange vest over leather armor, all of which covers a loose white shirt with the collar popped. He has red hair in a longish, choppy mullet with bangs covering one of his blue eyes. He is also something of a bookworm, being seen reading heavy, tactical books often. He has a drinking habit, having alcohol at any occasion that he can. He's very physical in body language, usually putting his arm around people's shoulders or hugging them very tightly when happy or relieved, as well as making aggressive gestures or hitting objects when angry. When Rusty becomes angry, he becomes vindictive and venomous, often lashing out at people, which he usually regrets right after the lashing out. Rusty has deep trust issues, fearing commitment and becoming too close to others out of fear of being betrayed again. He is incredibly good at flirting, which has made him very popular with women, and he re-purposes many skills that he uses in battle to flirt, earning Alto's ire. Rusty is a womanizer, often seeking out short flings and one-night-stands with many different women who are willing to have them. He cares a lot about children in general, being kind to the orphans around the city. However, he genuinely cares about the other members of the Regiment, especially the younger ones, acting like an older brother to them. He usually does what he wants without regard to the actual objective at the moment, running off to do anything from having fun to pursing something that enrages him. Rusty presents himself as laid-back and aloof, but he really gets intense when agitated and has trouble managing his anger. He is skilled in battle, but is looked down upon within the knights due to his womanizing nature. He enjoys flirting, reading, and going to hot springs. Originally hailing from one of the caravans in the Mujabalaar Desert, he has an aloof personality and can often be found hitting on women. A member of the same regiment as Alto, Rusty plays the role of an elder brother for the other members.
